Self-interview about upcoming projects (FAQ)

by Elder Prince from Blossomsoft

When will Eternal Eden 2 be released?

The current release date for Eternal Eden 2 is set for July 1, 2010.

I deliberately pushed the date far into the year to make sure I would be able to release it without another delay. However, I do hope to release the game during spring break even if it can’t be officially promised.

Why was the game delayed?

The game was initially intended to release on the first week of December, but rather than using the Christmas rush I preferred to use more time to work on it. I want to make sure it honestly reflects my tastes and my efforts as a game developer.

Will your game use the runtime package (RTP) from RPG Maker?

Using the RTP with Eternal Eden was totally acceptable to me as a first commercial game using RMVX, but I don’t feel the same for my upcoming games.

Using RTP assets for Eternal Eden 1 proved to be a very enjoyable experiment. However in the long run, using the RTP takes away from the game’s distinctiveness in the marketplace. It can be difficult for new customers to tell the difference between Eternal Eden, Hero’s Tale, Eternal Twilight, Darkly Sin, Dawn’s Light, etc. From the screenshots or videos they all look very similar.

I want Eternal Eden 2 to feel unique. And besides I’m trying to put in the customer’s shoes, as a gamer I don’t think I would  be able to play games that use the same assets (graphics, sounds, scripts) over and over again.

Will Project Christmas be released during the holidays?

Absolutely! :D But in 2010.

Sorry for the sarcasm it wasn’t intended, hehe.

Initially, Project Christmas was planned be a very small low-budget project to replace Eternal Eden 2 during the holidays. I needed a project to fill a gap in my revenue. I was even supposed to make this game under a different pseudonym because I wasn’t sure about the end result.  But this project grew on me very much and I felt inspired with greater ideas. Thus I am taking this extra time to make the game solid. It cannot be released this year under its initial intended form.

Are any other factors delaying your projects?

Yes. I’m constantly studying and training with various disciplines to make the future of Blossomsoft stand on solid pillars. I am temporarily using RPG maker as a medium to earn some money, but I’m aiming for bigger things with the Blossomsoft brand in the upcoming years. For example I am aiming consoles.

Is your budget suffering from the delays?

I won’t lie: Yes, greatly. (it won’t always be like this though.)

Making genuine efforts as an indie, I tend to alter my financial plan. I have no revenue until my next game is released.

Let’s be honest together: making three or four games a year using the RTP would be so darn easy. I could make thousands of extra dollars in no time. But I’m not doing it. I tried (I confess!) but I’m totally unable!

Even if money and freedom have a certain importance to me, I can only create games that I feel really show off what I am capable of and that I am truly passionate about. In other words, I cannot sell games that I wouldn’t be able to play at least twice myself.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

You can be sure that Blossomsoft is synonymous with genuine effort, a love for great games, and that money will never stain the value of a fantastic experience. :)

Thank you for reading and keep an eye on my stuff!
