Would you like to play a full remake of Eternal Eden set in a 3D environment? Would you like to revive this experience differently? Let’s say on a different platform such Nintendo DS or Wii?
I’d love to play it in 3d, but I’m worried that some of the art won’t transfer because you used some stuff that came with rpgmaker. Still it’d be neat, you could add some junk in there and fix the fairy exp glitch!
@beeber, it’s in my plans to create 3D games, I hope you will play them since they come from me hehe :D however don’t worry I will not abandon 2D games at all, I’ll create both styles because I love each of them :)
@Dezmonik: Let’s suppose Eternal Eden is remade in 3D, resource materials will be remade too with a similar style and ambiance. :)
The reason why I’d be interested to remake EE in 3D is that the concept/story has been proven toward a small audience and the reception could be positive toward a larger audience with enhancements.
I think I’d just prefer another Eternal Eden in 2D! I just love these old school RPGs.
Having said that, my ex used to play XboX a lot, and I spent some time playing Morrowind with him and I adored that, so even though right now I don’t own an XboX or PS or Wii, I do think Eternal Eden would make a great game console game.
As long as you also keep making computer based RPGs!
Oh and an afterthought: You might like to have it burnt into a CD and sold, that’d be cool for people who don’t have Paypals *cough*me*cough* and my friends. It’d be sad if all the profit you could’ve gotten from what people get through piracy would be yours y’know
I went on XBOX Live lately and there are some quite retro-looking games selling in the indie marketplace. I wonder if it would mean investing a lot to get a spot on there, but that’s pretty mad exposure!
What do you gain by putting one of your games in 3D? What about the games you are planning would take advantage of 3D?
You can make a more polished, less buggy, better playing game in 1/10th of the time in 2D vs 3D. Plus, good looking 2D is timeless. If you put out a below average looking 3D game (unless you have a hidden company, a lot more money and a couple years inbetween games) then it will be received more poorly than if you put out a super polished 2D game.
I can’t disagree with you Rob, creating a 3D game is insanely challenging. I’m aware of this topic, and I guess I will create some more 2D games before I can publish my first 3D title hehe
I just love throwing hypothetical topics, it’s always nice to know what people think.
Besides, I stopped to write about my life on this blog, I’m trying to fill the gaps with other subjects.
So, more realistically (hehe), let’s suppose Square-Enix or Altus or any other third-party company come to ask me to remake Eternal Eden in 3D, will you be interested? :D
Why not, but 2D RPGs are good in my opinion.
If you’ve got a great 3D engine it could be worth a try but honestly I dont find 3D RPGs superior to 2D ones.
To Rob I would say look at FF3 and FF4 on DS. They don’t really use anything special with the 3D, but I would venture to guess a lot of people bought them and liked going through a good RPG they have probably played before in a new way. Also, the people that haven’t played it before are more likely to give it a look (sadly) because it was 3D and nice looking.
I think it would be so cool to play it in 3d. I would play it if it were in DS or Wii. And you know what? Wii soooooo needs turn based RPGs. I’ve been complaining about this because there’s rarely any traditional RPG for it. Sigh.
I would absolutely NOT play a remake in 3D. Two reasons:
#1 – I’ve already played it, and the storyline is the drive. What fun is there if I know it alredy?
#2 – Does anyone remember what happened to Monkey Island when they made that in 3D? Or do you need reminding: It went from the two first games being old school, to the 3rd being cartoonish (THAT was great) to the crappy unfinished weird 3D version because 3D takes SO much work and money that even Lucas Arts couldn’t get it right.
So no thanks.
hmm… Not really. I like playing games in 3D, but I also like the simplicity of 2D applied in games like these… They don’t take up much of my computer’s resources (I have a lot of RPG’s in my computer, hence I want to limit myself in 2D). Plus, there’s this nostalgic feeling whenever I play games in 2D… that, and it’s also fun and simple.
My blog is a lively journey in my professional and artistic life as a game and software designer, including the human and emotional side of it. It’s filled with joy, passion, challenge, optimism, sincerity, justice, and sometimes with obstacles and grief. I hope dear fans that you will enjoy my modest journey!

I think I like it more the JRPG way…and I’d definitely want it in another platform provided that the PC version stays :D

What about 2D that looks 3D? Rendered 3D like FF7?

I think you need to set your sites realistically. The time and effort required for a 3d game will be 10x what you do on a 2d game in RPGMaker…

It’s only a survey at this moment. Just interested in the question.
Don’t expect me to do a 3D game this year lol

games like FF3 and FF4 on DS almost can be considered like 2D games.

Eclipse, yeah, but those games also have huge teams behind them. That was mostly my point.

I can’t see the screen in DS, too tiny. I kinda hate the Wii. Could you make it a Gamecube release?
