I’m gaining back all my vitalities and energies!

November 20th, 2008

I’m gaining back all my vitalities and energies! That’s a very good thing for the near completion of Eternal Eden.

I must tell that four days without eating even a hunk of bread was quite a challenge. You can be sure about one thing: I will be more caring towards those in need from now onwards- although generosity has always been part of my personal merits even in the past.

I realize now that it’s pure strangers that support me more than people close to me. Who knows why…

At least, I know this world can be made of friendly people too :) Again, thank you for your wonderful support! It’s completely amazing!

Now what about the progress status of Eternal Eden?

I won’t lie that I’ve been getting late during the previous week for the mentioned reasons and also that fever. It’s part of unpredictability, I guess.

I’m currently working on all the side-quests which are currently progressing very quickly. I’m also improving some graphical pieces there and there. And finally I have to make the ending cutscene, and ta-dam, the game is completed. Although I have to play through it once more to make sure there’s no critical bug.

Stay tuned!

(PS: don’t forget to take part in the previous article, especially if you want your words to be engraved in a real game! Noah need your words of encouragement!)

Secret fan room

November 19th, 2008

In Eternal Eden, there is a special hidden room dedicated to the supporters of this project. Anyone who have been reading this blog or donated can take part in this fun feature.

Context: Noah and his friends are about to challenge the final boss [the room can be found at this moment]. It’s going to be a very tough battle! Just like me, Noah love to feel the trust of people surrounding him to feel stronger. Each of you has the opportunity to give your words of encouragement to Noah, which will grant extra power stats to Noah and his friends inside the game.

Make sure to address to Noah using accolades “…”
Write your real name, or nickname – or both of them. Example:

Elder Prince (aka Blackthirteen): “Noah, don’t give up… I’ve been following this project for you, blabla!” (Example: This could add ATK+1 to Noah.)

Write anything that pop on your mind, related to Eternal Eden, or anything else you want said in the game. Can be a paragraph long. So you’re memories will be part of my first game! :D

Inside the room, I will write special notes of my own to selected members that highly supported me.

Noah is counting on you!

As always, I’m keeping working on Eternal Eden. Even if my workflow suffered a little during the previous week, I’m still moving ahead.

I’ve decided it was time to resize the ship and the airship to have better proportions with the characters. Here’s an example:

I’ve also done a lot of rtp customizations. Here’s an example:

Before:

After (I needed an image for a quiet grassy village):

The final dungeon is completed. It was a very tricky one for me. You’ll understand what I mean when you’ll play it.

The last boss is implemented as well.

I’m still working on the ending dialogues, but my creative juice was a bit down lately for some reasons. So for the time being I’m working on the side quests and testing them.

I sincerely want to thank donators since the start of this project. Thanks to your great support, it will be possible to give this last ounce of energy from me and release Eternal Eden in the more brief delay.

On my side, I’ll do my best to support future aspiring developers when things will work better for me. I have also another idea in mind that should please those people, I will reveal about it later.

We should all remember that the last efforts in a project are always the hardest one.

Help me to finish Eternal Eden with a flourish!

November 18th, 2008

My best strategy for now would be to start accepting donations as a blogger :)

Why donate? Probably because you’re a great person! And as a great person you always feel generous toward other persons in the need, and indisputably, I’m in a very unpleasant situation right now ;)

Even though I’m often emotional with my articles, I’m not the begging type. I’ve always felt uncomfortable with donations. But TechLord in the previous article made me realize that donations can also be interpreted as ‘tip’, and in our society a lot of workers receive additional ‘tip’ separately of their services/products. I think it’s a good way to see it! :)

So, why ‘tip’ me as a blogger?

I can dance in front of my webcam! I can wear a sexy bunny beret with a pink swimming suit! Yeah! Striptease Showtime!

Honestly? I’m always doing my best to be a great source of inspiration to anyone willing to follow their dream. I’m honest with my articles, and I’m trying to tell things as they are.

Helping me to finish Eternal Eden with a flourish will also be rewarding to most readers. It’s as if you’re part of this project after all. A lot of you surely want to know the conclusion, and many are looking forward to read about my next dev ‘Project Stellar’ (which is going to be a step higher to Eternal Eden.)

Some good meals will definitely help to secure the release date (really soon, if I don’t fall sick again), and keep me going with a sharp mind :)

I have to be frank with you about one thing: this situation is my pure personal choice. From the beginning I knew I was going to cross harsh periods like this ones. I was resolute to work full-time on this project in order to fulfill it before the end of the year.

I don’t force anyone to send donations. Only send if you have spare money, or if you feel the desire. If you can’t send money, it none of my intention to make my readers feel guilty :D It’s truly my personal choice, but support will be very appreciated.

to-eat list

November 17th, 2008

YOU have to be in my skin to understand the artistic meaning of this post lol

Trust me, my next meal is going to be cherished as if the most beautiful day of my life.

Do yourself a favor: realize how lucky you are to eat at this moment. Food is the most precious gift we have. Some people living in the worst countries cannot even enjoy it at all.

Now enjoy my little collection of future ambitious purchases:

Good news: my fever has disappeared completely, that’s a very good thing. However I still haven’t eaten anything in the last 24 hours :( This crisis is really not easy, but it’s part of the challenge that I’ve deliberately chosen, so better keep smiling. Lately my imagination is my worst enemy though. I’m seeing some hot and tasty chicken wings dancing around my head. I’m trying to catch them, but they burst like bubbles when I finally think I’m going to have a good meal… Ah!… Hopefully it’s the ‘last’ week :) Once I get some money I’m going to eat like a pork! I’m not joking. I’m going to eat until I weight 350lbs and look like a giant Hippopotamus. King Hippo. I just want to eat and never stop.

This entire situation is a proof that there is love, passion and massive efforts behind Eternal Eden. As I said before, I could have sold Eternal Eden much earlier, but I delayed it to make the quest deeper according to the initial standards set for this project. If I had sold EE during summer my life would be a lot easier right now, I would be eating at least. People would have probably bought it anyway. But I’m seeing beyond yhis, and I truly wish that people will enjoy what I created. I want people to feel there’s a soul under this old school game. This game doesn’t necessarily show superiority with the graphics, but it certainly offers a great atmosphere and parts of the gameplay, and that’s especially what I tried to achieve during this autumn, hence my obstacle with money.

The final dungeon is currently under beta testing. I’m very proud of my efforts with this one. Tomorrow I’m going to start writing the dialogues for the ending cutscene on a .doc file, and finally, implement the events inside the game.

Well, I would like to keep writing but it’s currently 10:15 AM, it’s time to jump in my comfy bed. And as my favorite tradition, I’m not going to fail to play my SNES before falling asleep. I’m currently playing FF5. So good memories hooked to this game, I ordered the Japanese version 10 years ago via airmail. I was extremely excited when I received it because to my eyes this game was like a myth. It never got released in North America, and from 1993 to 1998 I was only restricted to watch screenshots from pages I cut from Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine. Playing FF5 plunge me again in this epic atmosphere.

Good night!

My fever is less intense. I’m not even sure it’s a cold… It’s maybe a fever caused by overwork or undernourishment.

Today I’m done with the final dungeon. The only thing I have to do is to insert the dialogues inside this area, and finally, make the ending cutscene. I think these tasks will be all accomplished tomorrow, and will start testing with my friends.

Then, I will have to work on the remaining tasks for the mini-games and sidequests.

I’m very positive the game will be ready within next week.

Man. Don’t feel shame for me. I got a last-minute cold with burning fever. It wasn’t expected on my schedule. It’s the fifth time this year. That’s unquestionably due to my chronic malnutrition. Well, don’t be angry if my tentative release dates lack of exactitude… Although 11-11th wasn’t so far from my anticipation.

To give you an idea, here are the remaining steps before distributing the final version of the game:

• I have to finish the design of the last dungeon, my current progress is 75%. [approx 10 hours of work]

• Then, I have to revise and complete the side-quest features all through the game. This part should be really fast. I’m already almost finished with the mini-game called Turtle Hunt. [approx 15 hours of work]

• I have to rewrite the ending cut scene, because with all the changes done during autumn, the current ending is incorrect. [approx 10 hours of work]

• I have to work on the staff role (still haven’t decided which technique to use to make it), but I guess this task should be really fast. [approx 3 hours of work]

• I have to make a splash screen with the company logo. I still haven’t decided which technique to use to make it. I haven’t even looked for an existing script doing this kind of task on VX. If you know about one, please inform me.

• Rob is currently working to make the website online. It’s already finished according to his last email, just need to upload it.

• And finally, I have to implement the e-commerce system and configure it (at this point, I’ve decided to choose Plimus)

Despite everything, the game is truly on the very last percent of completion! :D So even if there is a small waiting, it’s still a very good news, at least for me! I’m very happy and relieved to know this project is at the end. This time I won’t specify an ‘exact’ release date, but I’m convinced that everything will be ready before next Friday (7 days).

Now I cant’ wait to start my next projects, it will be great to have some changes! ‘Project Stellar’ blog should be online around the first week of December. I can’t wait seriously!

Well, now I have to take it easy with this cold… :(

To-buy list

November 14th, 2008

Things I eventually want to purchase when money will start to flow in my pocket.

• A new PC system with a monitor. My current PC can hardly support new technology updates.

• A Wacom Cintiq. I always wanted to work with this jewel to feel more intuitive with my pen while creating my arts. I’ve only heard good comments about this product.

• A musical keyboard. Certainly a Yamaha workstation, Tyros 3, or Korg X50 Music Synthesizer. Both of them if it’s possible in the upcoming years. It’s in my intentions to get back to musical composition like in the past. Of course, nowadays it’s a bit pointless to buy an electronic keyword with all those virtual samples online, but I admit that I’m a ‘goodies’ guy, I prefer when I can touch hardware with my hands. And I’ve always been a lover of Yamaha sound system. My first choice will certainly be Tyros 3.

_

• A car? Well, two years ago I wanted to purchase a flashy car, but nowadays I don’t feel it’s necessary anymore. After my biggest love pain last year, I changed a lot with this kind of stuff. I’ll probably satisfy myself with a used car, nothing expensive.

My expenses will be focused on my passions.
